Painting A Tank

Even tho the paint is reflected through a layer of glass you can still tell the difference between matte black and gloss.... acrylic paints are very thin and dont cover well. Latex paints and oil based work well and hold up forever. You have to scrape them off but its a thicker paint. Rustoleum matte black will do the trick for what ur looking for. Its oilbased. No need for non toxic paints imo.

Yeah I agree I use rustoleum black on all my tanks and the colors POP

the thick goopy acrylic paint at craft stores spreads incredibly well and isn't reflective, also is incredibly easy to remove. 3$ completely blacked out the back of my 4' 120 with a decent amount left over. with half inch glass i get no reflection and i use a 4x54watt t5 fixture. acrylic paints are as thin or thick as you want them to be. I used a sponge brush to apply and let it dry for 6-8 hours. 5$ of supplies and everything you're looking for.

Would I be able to paint the back of my tank black with the fish and everything still inside? How long would it take to dry. (Figured I would ask I this thread instead of making a new one)

If your using craft paint you should be fine, it's non toxic and water based. I find that it takes about half an hour to dry fully. Since you need about 3-5 coats it should take a couple hours until your done.
