painting glass

I already have the glass, paint and sandpaper and black acrylic is hard to come by from where I am. So I went ahead and sanded the glass using 250 grade sandpaper. Painted it with spray can of black paint and then a protective coat of clear. 3 hours in the hot sun, its 35 degrees right now and its dried. tried to scrape with my nails and the paint will not come off. Scratches was not visible, I installed it and once I turned on the lightes VOILA all the scratches was visible :( . I just turned the glass around and now it looks good....

hmmm if i knew i would be facing the paint side up front, it might have been better if i used a grinder to really scrape up the glass...

Main thing to remember you will see those marks so you would have to take your time and make the swirl marks from the grinder look uniform. Gives it more of an estetic appeal. What you did will be fine and the paint will stick

Glad it worked out for you but for future reference for anyone interested there is good glass paint that you don't have to sand before using. At most craft stores or online you can find glass enamel paint that you can paint onto the back of your aquarium that will not scratch just make sure to do it before you have your fish in and give it a few days to let the smell wear off. I used one made by Pebeo they have all colors and metallics too very easy to use.
