Painting the bottom of a tank.

There's some dust on the bottom from sitting empty the last few weeks so I should've wiped it down first but that's probably how it would look a few days after a wc anyways :rolleyes: I'm pretty sure that was done with krylon tho so that's about how it would turn out
 
I got some black acrylic paint I picked up cheap at walmart probably use that for the outside. Again you da man!

I actually have a problem with diatoms in one of my tanks too but I use a soft kitchen sponge (since its acrylic) and it works great. I just wiped down my glass tanks last night too and it only took 10mins during a wc. But for anyone thinking about painting the inside, they sell sponge cleaners on a long handle too but as long as its a sponge instead of that scratchy material it shouldn't scratch the paint.

It really doesn't look bad filled up tho, I'm just using mine as a fry tank so it didn't matter much to me lol. The back panel was only halfway painted when I bought it cuz he was still working on it and threw it in with my 240, so I painted the other half with a few coats of some acrylic paint I had laying around and u can't even see where they meet up :p
 
Yeah I got the thing with the handle. and Im sure it will scratch ha. this is just a growout tank so Im not to concerned about doing the inside. When I get a large tank someday I will most likely. Right no Im literally tearing down the tank and cleaning everything while I left my HOB with my bio run in my feeder tank to keep it alive. The diatoms just wont stop so im takiing extreme measures lol. In a week my tank is covered in the crap. Its been like this for almsot 2 months. Ive read it goes away on its own but not for me aparently lol.

I'm about 2 months in with the problem tank too and the diatom growth has slowed down over the last month but definitely not gone. I use a mag float on the front and side panels every other day and then wipe everything down once a week to keep it manageable, but none of my other tanks have ever done this so I think it might be a flow issue. The sad part is I'm tearing down the 240 to redo the seams before its even fully established so I'll have to go thru it twice :banghead: But before that I have to tear down the 90 behind the 55 in those pics and then set them both back up on the new stand... so I feel your pain but it will be worth it in the end lol
 
Yeah thats worse lol! Good luck I hope whatever is left on my bio media doesnt stir it all up again. I have plenty of flow in there, There two 300gph HOB and a 300gph power head in the left corner. It all started when I added the dang PFS Im assuming the silica in that got it going to where its at now. :swear:

I'm very happy with the way it turned out painting the outside. Looks better than I imagined. Although the only inhabitant for right now is a pictus cat. This tanks gonna look good with some color in it.

Barebottom tanks look much better with the bottoms painted. They are not glare free, but it really cuts it down.
