Pair of Festae in a 4x2x2

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Should be fine as long as you can upgrade within 3 yrs.My male is 2yrs old 8",female 1 yr 4.5"

You'll be fine for a long time. They grow so slow, you'll probably sell the pair and get something new before they ever outgrow the tank. Especially since they'll be breeding, you know it stops their growth. If you're worried about them killing one another keep a tank divider to separate them. My female killed at least 4 males (it really SUCKED!) before I found one she would accept. Once they paired, they never attacked each other even once.

yeh thats why i got 6 and waiting for a pair to form.

sould be fine for a while and its useually the female that kills the male

Have a divider already built and sitting beside the tank. I started having aggression problems once my f1 pair were 16 months old or so. I had to use a partial divider to keep the female from getting destroyed. After 4-6 months of this, I finally gave up hope on them ever playing nice and sold the female to a friend. This was in a 75gal. The female was somewhere around 5-6" and the male was ~8" at the time. Without the energy used for courting, the male is now growing like a bad weed and is a little over 9". And that's at a little over 2 years old.

When they were growing out, the female was the fastest growing and the most aggressive. I had 5f/1m out of my batch of 6 from Rapps. I moved the lone male to another tank to fatten him up. Once he was the same size as the big female, I introduced him back and it didn't take long for him to become the dominant fish.

I just assumed, everyone on here has multiple, and spare tanks too. Good luck.

If a 4x2x2 is a 120 which I think it is I don't see why it you couldn't keep even a breeding pair alone in there for years until a upgrade to a 150 or 210 if you wanted another nice big cichlid in there too later on. But having all those big tanks already I don't know if your dad woud like that idea to much of the 210 lol.

lol he's not keen on me getting a 150 let alone a 210! but then again if i can afford to insulate my garage i can get a 360g pond in ther but i doubt that'll happen cuz of the weather over here.
