Hi All,

Is there any information out there on how to pair black arowanas?

I currently have one about 20" or so in my 520 gallon tank. I really like this fish alot and would like to add another. I have not been able to find any information out there on pairing arowanas or any sexually dimorphism.

I am assuming it is one of those things you just have to try it and see?

If I add a second and they do not get along, do they fight to the death? What occurs? I would have another tank setup assuming the worst before I tried this.

Thanks!

Its always best to have 3 or more. I have a silver, black and a leichardti all together. There is nipping but nothing serious.

Is it best to make sure they are all roughly the same size?

I started with 4 and waited for two to pair up. I now have a naturally bonded pair. One thing to look for is the male will have a big jaw profile compared to the female. Reason...The male holds the eggs.
Also since they have paired my female stays pretty dark in color compared to the male.

Gorgeous pair! Did you start with 4 little ones or larger ones?

What are the two larger fish below the aros in the first pic?

I started with 4 small ones about 7". They are now about 24" long. The fish below are lenticulata pike.

Thanks!

How large were they when the two paired off? Just wondering if mine will be too large to think about doing this with at this point.
