This is Atractosteus strausi. A gar from the Eocene of Messel Germany (dorso-ventrally compressed).
These are fossil gar scales from a blown (disarticulated) specimen I found in Kemmerer, WY. From the Eocene of the Green River Basin.
Esconichthys apopryis from the upper carboniferous (325 million years) of the Mazon Creek formation, Braidwood, IL. This diminutive lungfish is about 1/2 grown.
Paramblypterus is another lungfish. It's from the permian (280 million years) from Niedernhausen, Germany.
Semionotus tenuiceps comes from the late triassic (180 million years) from Turner Fall, Mass.
Phareodus encaustis is an osteoglossid (arowana) that comes from the Eocene of the Green River Basin formation in Wyoming. I've also attached a jaw from a larger specimen than the one photographed (really wish I'd found the complete fish)
Here's another Osteoglossid (arowana) called Phareodus testis. Climate changes killed off the 2 known US-native aro species. Darn the bad luck. This one is also from the Eocene (50 MYO) Green River Basin formations of Kemmerer, Wyoming.
This codlet is still not identified. But, because of the filaments, it looks just like the paradise threadfin. From the Eocene of southern France.
