Palmas getting bullied

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Could it be that they are pretty much alone in a 75? The only other fish beside the palmas n fm is a bn pleco and it hides in the driftwood.

Eh, if the FM is being that aggressive I'd imagine its territorial, and FM's are known to be kind of mean to other fish. Do you see it blowing its throat out a lot? They just make it bulge out to make themselves look bigger, if your seeing that a lot you may have a male that's just being territorial.

Yeah it is a male and does puff out its gills at the palmas. I guess its just being territorial.

For sure thats the issue then. I would either throw in a couple platys to take attention away from the bichirs or divide if possible. A FM like that have killed small bichirs before in my buddys tank, he sold it to a lfs. I would suggest the same

Spread out the hideouts on corners, that way they could establish their place

This is how I got it set up now I rearranged it when I did my water change. The flat rocks on the right are the only hiding places close to each other.the firemouth tends to stay in the middle behind the Anubis. ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1380203608.759586.jpg

As I'm watching them now it seems to be calming down. When I came in the room the palmas was out swimming and when the fm came to greet me he didn't bother the palmas. In the mean time I'm going to get some more stock for a 150 I'm getting.

They'll eventually get along fine, keep your FM well fed as food sometimes become a factor to why fishes get territorial.

I'd also clear off hiding places in the middle for the mean time until that FM becomes calm ;)
