I’m having an issue with one of my two palmas palmas as he has jumped and injured himself for the fourth or fifth time now and each time he has done so he’s taken off skin on his nose. He just jumped mere seconds ago and undid the progress he had made since his last attempt. He is the only one that ever doe this, does anyone have suggestions? All I can think of is keeping a bunch of thick pieces of styrofoam floating.

Try lowering the water level. Add some floating plants.

the water is currently lowered 2 inches and it’s been down to 4 inches before and it doesn’t do a thing. He isn’t just going up for air, no, he’s shooting up as fast as he can. There’s something else going on that I don’t know.

Check your temperature and parameters, and are any other fish bothering the palmas? My bichir mainly jumped when something else was after her.

The only thing I can think of is him getting spooked by my sun catfish as they can be rowdy at times and not settle down however no other bichir reacts to them such as this bichir. I’m currently out of the house so I’ll get the parameters when I get back.

Also, do you have enough hiding space?

I found that there were consistent fights over hiding spaces and whatnot so I removed all objects that could cause disputes.
