I have a 180 gallon that I want to make into a paludarium but I am running into a few obsticles. First off, I need to use the divider method, since one side of the aquarium has a leak in it. I see that most people use plexi-glass to seperate the land and water. My problem is that this is an old DAS tank, and the bottom of the tank is not a regular 90 degree angle, it goes down the side glass, then comes out about a half inch and joins the plastic bottom and then goes down about a half inch. I hope you can understand what I mean. Its kind of like a rim on the bottom, like a stair-step. How could I seperate this? I tried using pond liner, but found that it was really hard to join to the glass. Any ideas?

Well first we need to know whats going in it. That determines pretty much every decision you make.

Water snake? Bullfrogs? Other frogs? You're in Louisiana...bring the swamp into your home :)

Sounds like a cool idea. I've always wanted to make one with dart frogs in it. If you know how to use fiberglass, you could make a pretty nice water divider with it.

I would like to use fiberglass, but I have no way of cutting it. As you read, it would have to be cut a very certain way at the bottom to fit. The aquarium is not a standard 180; its maybe 4 1/2 ft long and 3 ft wide and about 18 inches tall. These are very approximate. I would like to divide it somehow a third of it dry land. And then in the water section I will build additional land masses with river rocks epoxy-puttied together. But, because of the strange shape of the bottom, I don't know how to divide it. And, like I said above, one side of the aquarium leaks, and that's where I want the land to be. Inhabitants will include fish (hatchets, ottos, zebra danios), red-bellied newts, anoles, and dwarf claw frogs. Considered a tree frog, but I'm not sure about that.

I don't have an answer for your problem, never came across a DAS tank, but sounds like a good idea.

Any pics of the tank or of setups youre taking ideas from? Its kinda hard to follow what youre saying.

I went with a false bottom on mine.

Like the false bottom idea, but that won't work for mine becuase like said one side of the tank has a leak. What did you use for the background on this? I like it.

I made the background.

I used eggcrate to make the frame for the "tree", (that is just bark silliconed to spray foam) and spray foam. then siliconed "soil" to the foam to cover it and add soil to the planting areas.

these are older pics, I will dig out the camera and get some new shots.
