have you thought about getting a piece of glass cut to fit the bottom of the tank, like to sit on the "step", and silicone it in place?

I made the background.

I used eggcrate to make the frame for the "tree", (that is just bark silliconed to spray foam) and spray foam. then siliconed "soil" to the foam to cover it and add soil to the planting areas.

these are older pics, I will dig out the camera and get some new shots.

thats a pretty sweet set up for a tokay!

thanks

hmmm, never thought about a tokay. Are they okay with water or could they fall in and drown? BTW, what is spray foam and where do you get it? Can you use bark and driftwood you collect? Is introducing parasites a concern? I know I would never do this in a fish aquarium, but I'm new to paludariums so I don't know. It would be nice to get a piece of glass to fit the bottom, but Since the aquarium is like 4.5 ft by 3 ft it would be a big piece, also the aquarium is keyhole shaped, so it would be hard to get a piece that fit. I bought fiberglass yesterday and had it cut. It looks like it might work. Do I need to put a bead of silicone under it or put the fiberglass down then put a bead on both sides of it?

Great Stuff spray foam from Lowes or Home depot, make sure to get the stuff that does NOT have the anti-mildew/mold, that kind is toxic.

I used only driftwood and bark that I collected, I also collected most of the moss's and some of the plants.

do you know exactly where the leak is? if so you might be able to epoxy the leak.

as far as the tokay goes, the water is fine as long as the is acess to the land,

Hey sixpack. Try the forums at kingsnake.com. You can try the Enclosure design forum or the Dart Frog forum. Trust me, dart frog people know EVERYTHING about paludariums! haha And you can ask in any individual snake/lizard/turtle forum for individual species questions. :)

Sorry, not trying to advertise or anything. Don't punish me lol.

he is right about the dartfrog people, this is how I learned how to make mine.

plantedtank.com has a great viv/paludarium section. a

dendroboard.com/ aswell.

God that tank is f***ing gorgeous... What a masterpeice.

So you guys collect your own driftwood? You just go find some at a lake or something? It wont rot in the aquarium or anything? I guess I thought the driftwood had to be dried out then cured or something like that. Well, to update, I siliconed the plexiglass, filled it up, and no leaks! I'm starting to work on the dry land part now and looking for ideas for the water portion. And thats an awesome setup; I love the background!
