Panama Green Umbie

Guys,
This is similar to comparing Herichthys sp " blue labridens" to Herichthys labridens.
Caquetaia sp "green umbriferus" is credited to being "discovered" by Heiko Bleher in the 80s. It was in later ACA BB isssues that Fromm, when reviewing Konings book, argued this was a color phase of umbriferus. As far as I know, there has been no documented papers showing Caquetaia sp "green umbriferus" as being just a geographical color morph of Caquetaia umbriferus.
If you like rare cichlids and enjoy breeding a cichlid that not many keep, get a sp "green umbriferus". Just please don't breed umbriferus with sp
"green umbie"

I agree with this. The two species should definately be kept seperate. I don't think the so called "Green Umbees" are a color morph of Caquetaia Umbriferus but a different species all together.
The pair I had in the pictures was a very difficult pair to spawn while trying to keep the female in good condition. Once the males get to a decent size a complete divider is needed or the female will never make it through the whole spawning process. Unfortunately the male showed no interest with the divider in place and I would have to let them interact when the female was conditioned and ready. Even at this time the pair would brawl through the whole spawning process and even while she was laying the eggs. As soon as the pair finished laying and fertilizing the eggs I would seperate the pair with the divider and remove the eggs to a seperate 50 gallon hatching tank.
