Yeah it was on a surge protector but it's an old one and I don't think I would even feel comfortable asking for money if it came to it. I did have the tv itself plugged directly into an outlet which was completely my fault. Frazer TV Repair quoted a home assessment at 60 bucks so I may have them come out and check it out. At least I could conclusively know what the problem is at that point.
