Shawn Armmentrout AKA Aquaticmadness just showcased a guy named David Draper who has a nice Pearsei. (OnTheROAD Episode #2) youtube.

Lol, thats me. Hey spiff, good to see you are still enjoying your fish!

Here is Porkchop, my 13" girl. Mine came from Shawn Armmentrout AKA Aquaticmadness, which he got from Gage at Cichlid Connection. I got her at 5" in October of 2012.

There really is not a ton of info but I have a dream of one day owning a wild caught or F1 "Rio Lacanjah" type. I love the elongated look about them.

I did have a male at one point that I introduced to Porckchop but she beat him up and had him in a corner. This one too came from Gage at Cichlid Connection. It was a bit different and had a more elongated body and it was mean in comparison to the one I have now. The thing always had this cool breeding dress coloration. Sadly I lost it when it broke and impaled itself on a glass thermometer.

Hey there. I'm so glad your suggested to try these guys. They are pretty much my tank favorite now.

Oh man, it impaled itself on a thermometer? Yikes! Do you think it was trying to eat it or something?

I just watched your video again... there is definitely some interesting interaction behavior that these guys do... whenever they are facing each other, the turning sideways seems to be the social norm for them I guess. And I presume that is a mated pair in the video but I was seeing a lot of the nuanced behavior that mine will do too. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a whole sophisticated means of communication going on there that we have yet to discover.

Ive always like the look of the "Rio Lacanjah" Pearsi but have never seen them available for sale, it usually is the 'red fin' or 'Rio Tulija' that Ive seen. Not sure if that is considered the same or what, again since there is no real info. I have found it to be a bit more challenging to introduce tankmates now that she is bigger. She put on quite a dominance show to the new regani she has in her tank but had no issues with the little red bay snook. I do have some small Paraneetroplus heterospilus I plan on adding in a month or so when I feel they are big enough not to be snook snacks. I know she wont have an issue with them because they are so small in comparison.

Geez, that gets confusing. Duanes mentioned how these things recently got reclassed... i guess they might still in a limbo state sort of.

Your idea of getting a wild caught specimen might be the way to go for breeding.. it makes you wonder how much of the same stock is in circulation.

The wild caught are brought in fairly regularly. Another sad story for me... I had got one (+ a WC Argentea) and being a newbie introduced it into an established tank without first doing a quarantine. Needless to say I lost almost my entire tank and whatever hell that got brought in, it took me months to fix.
Here is that one:

It has been a long road to get my Pearsei. Lost a few nice ones along the way. Learned a lot of tough lessons.
