Panther groupers:
15"?
need at least a 90 gallon tank for width?

I need to know anything and everything about these groupers, speciefically conspecific temperments and breeding.

Thank you.

The panther grouper is an extremely social fish in the early phases of life. Making it an excellent addition to a fish FO tank. With age though they become very mean and will kill tank mates. Yes they will grow to more than 15 inches and breeding them is nearly impossible. They have 0 tolerance for other panther groupers in the marine aquarium so breeding is probably out of the question. A tank larger than 90 gallons will be required for the later parts of the panther groupers life. Tehy will eat pretty much everything and are very easy to care for.

Yeah ide say u would need a 180 or even bigger as they can reach just over 2'. I reckon a 90 would be good for probably less then a year if it is well fed.

from what i understand they are bright white with black dots when young and grey with black dots as they get older. ive been told they max out at 36" and you would need a 200gallon tank to comfortable house one for life. anything that can fit in their mouth is fair game and conspecifics will quarrell. i wouldnt attempt breeding and id say go big or dont bother as far as tank size.

are ther any species of grouper that are relatively peaceful, whenit comes to conspecifics?

Oh boy, here we go. :D
In my experience, Panthers (And Groupers in general) are fairly peaceful, even when quite large. They are eating machines and are capable of eating things larger than seems possible. I've never seen an overly aggressive Panther. As adults, they do like to have a little space around them and will defend this space but rarely persue a tank mate across a tank to defend their territory. Sorry, I disagree that Panthers will kill their tankmates. Just my .02.
As for size, they get fraking huge. However, they aren't swimmers persay so IMO, a 90 is not out of the question. They tend to lumber rather than "Swim". I think this needs to be taken into account when advising on tank size. Flame away, I can take it.:D
Juv Panthers are really cool; they get ugly as they grow but again, this is just my opinion.
I have little knowledge as to their breeding habits.

does anyone know where i can find some statistics about their distribution and population densities of their wild populations?

Thank you.

and more recently theyve been spotted in locations such as hawaii because people let them go when they get too big. dont be that person. TFH i believe did an article about them a few months back. see if you can find a back issue at a library or something. it was awesome.
