I heard a few weeks ago that some places are trying to ban plastic bags.

It got me thinking, what's really worse for the planet?

If we go back to paper 100% then more tress will get chopped down then what we replace. Plastic is not bio-degradable friendly.

So, it seems neither is a perfect solution.

Personally, I think plastic is more convenient to use as frozen or wet foods/drinks don't rip through it. Easy to crumble into a ball and store it until later for use.

We do re-use our bags to be our trash bags.

Anyone is welcome to add to this.

Please try to keep global warming(or lack of) out of this discussion.

Paper. Recycle paper so we dont have to cut more trees :)

I also do like paper.

We're already starting to use paper bags here, not plastic bags. The problem with plastics is they never decompose whereas paper can. If managed correctly, trees can be replanted constantly to replace the ones that were chopped down to create the much needed paper materials, whereas, plastic continues to accumulate and a lot of people just throw them elsewhere polluting the environment. There are many chemicals used to create plastic and that also endangers the environment more than paper materials can.

The problem is paper bags are not very durable. Most rip with ease.

I still remember before plastic came about...all those torn paper bags.

I agree 100%, this is plastic's flaw and most likely will be it's downfall in the end.

You think so? It seems if we go back to paper the trees won't be able to keep up.

Agreed.

Weeellll...It's not easy to convince everyone to reuse plastic bags unless there are incentives.lol

Some places have a "bag tax" on plastic bags. We have about 10 or 15 of the eco-bags we got at the dollar store for a dollar each. If I dont have them with me and I can get it when grocery shopping I have them put a paper bag inside a plastic bag and that by far is the strongest way. We use the plastic ones for can liners and lunch bags.

Neither - I use reusable bags :) And since I shop at Target I get 5 cents for every one of my own bags I use.

This ^

Reusable. I think I've accumulated 10 or so over the past few years. Paper or decline a bag if applicable otherwise.
