Paper or pastic?

Here re-useable material bags are the thing, made from a sustainable source. You buy them for a not too high price and if they break or wear through from normal wear and tear the store replaces it for free.
Some stores have taken to charging for plastic bags to deter shoppers from using them and there was talk of an all out ban on them.

Unfortunately we don't have much choice. It is either a re-useable bag or if you forget them then you use a regular plastic one. No recycled paper bags here that I have ever come across.

in Hong Kong they introduced a law a few years back where if you purchase products from certain stores, i.e. a super market, you have to pay a levi of HKD $0.50 per plastic bag...

This really helped stop people from using so many plastic bags and brining their own re-useable bags for shopping instead...

plastic. im not gonna waste time, money or effort on those crappy reuseable ones. They found those to be bad as well. If u use them ur not supposed to put meat in them

I forgot to mention the reusable ones

What happens?

contamination apparently.

Some contain lead, particularly the ones sold at bigger chain stores. Don't put exposed food in them, it doesn't matter what it is....i don't think i would put exposed food in any bag. If you have reusable bags from a big store you can probably find out about it online.

Here in Oregon, especially Eugene, we live in Hippie Land. There are reusable bags EVERYWHERE, some students even use them instead of backpacks.

I say for the majority of your shopping, NETHER!. I do great with cloth re-usable shopping bags. I have some nylon, hemp and canvas totes that work great. The nylon ones are great for folding up in small spaces.

That said, there are times I forgot to put my shopping bags back in the car or am on a trip and don't have them.
When I forgot my totes, I realize how much more practical to carry and stronger they are then what the grocery stores give me.
