sounds like its a male freddy then  are they all in the same tank awesome now all you need it a mota in there unless you all ready have one then if you could get a dovii to work it would be perfect but that would have to be a dream

Niether fish displays barring since settling in. Captain Awesome has the turquoise/blue green edged dorsal fin. Joe Kickass, on the other hand (fin, lol) has purple.

Any other opinions?

Here is Captain Awesome's ID thread...

Everyone there said freddy. But later, in another thread with other pics, a very knowledgeable member said loiselli.

Here is Joe Kickass's ID thread. Everyone there also said freddy. Now, later, cookiemonster says loiselli.

Here's a quick video of the tank. I can't remember if it shows any good views of these two fishes, but it's got good music.

Ready to be more confused? Here's Captain Awesome in breeding trim with the guaranteed female loiselli.

They laid eggs many times and fertilized them although they never made it to hatching. Someone ate them. Coincidentally, the female loiselli has swapped mates and is now fat with eggs and doing a mating dance with Joe Kickass, little whore.:D

Give me a few more minutes and I'll dig up a bunch of photos of each and maybe we can work out who is what.:)

Well, even though I posted in your first thread saying that Captain Awesome was a freddy, I think that he is a loisellei now.

The top two photos in this image are almost certainly misidentified, I think that they are 100% loisellei. I still don't know what to make of the bottom two photos.

I think that all I can do is ask you to stop buying these mysterious "gold jags", they have me far too confused. ;)

We share the same opinion then. I too think Captain Awesome is a loiselli. And if Captain Awesome is a loiselli and Joe Kickass is a different fish, Joe must be a friedrichsthalii by default. He is certainly not a mota, manny, or dovii.

And I'll never stop buying 'gold jags'. NEVER! :) I only get to that Asian LFS every few months or so and I'm going back there this week. Maybe they'll have some more. The owner is not to good with proper names. He calls all Parachromises 'jaguars', with the yellow loisellis and freddys being 'gold jags'. I tried to explain the differences between the five species, but there's a slight language barrier. And while he may not be great with scientific names, he gets some awesome fishes ('Red Saum' GT's, long finned Oscars, gars, etc.) and has a better selection of what I like than my local LFS with more tanks and stock that I visit all the time. Seriously though, the Parachromis is my end all, be all of cichlids. I just wish I had a tank big enough to keep the dovii along the other four.
