I hadn’t read all of the above comments when I answered previously. Now I see this in one of Duane’s posts:
“My only add would be that I have never been able to keep adult pairs in anything smaller than one pair to a 6 ft tank for any length of time.
They could grow out to about half size in tanks like 75s, but not able to maintain a permanent pair bond without enough space.”
That is probably valuable info, and the truth is that most of my experience has been with younger fish (I moved around a lot in my life), so my mention of 55 gallon tanks is more relevant to sub-adult fish, even though they were old enough to spawn. I have spawned many species, but generally didn’t keep them long term…
