I am new here to MFK since I normally stay on AquariaCentral mostly for my information and well PlecoFanatics. I have a question and need a solution so gonna post here as well.

I purchased 2 loisellei's from Jeff Rapps bout ummm 2 months ago and they are doing fine except the male is really aggressive toward the female. They currently live in a 55gal I was told to put some more hiding spots so I did that but male follows her. Which made me try different decorations and now got real plants some driftwood in there. Was told try adding dither fish like Giant Danios did that my loisellei's were lip locking for bout an hour then stopped.

Here is the problem when I got home from work I saw the female still behind a rock which is where she swam to after the lip locking stopped. Now when she shows her face the male chases her all around the tank. They have been ignoring the Danios. Oh was told add a terra cotta pot so did that and the male calls it home but female isnt aloud to show her face still.

I know I need to upgrade my tank size I found a 125gal for them I just need to make room in my room cuz I got the money for it already. There currently bout 4-5" each thats a guesstimate though. Ammonia is 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 10-20ppm Ph 7.4-7.6 I do weekly water changes of bout 40-50%. Its the 2 loisellei's and 6 Giant Danios. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Eat him ....lol

Ummmmm ide rather not lol. They have been temporarly seperated. The male was beating up on her a lil more then I liked.

As for the Danios I had 6 originally now I got 4 not sure where they went I see no bodies in or out of the tank. I do see one Giant Danio with scales missing on his side so guessing the female killed and ate one at night.

Should of bought convicts cuz this is my first attempt to breed cichlids or fish for that matter. Oh well. Ill be back later got to rest do a WC setup my new tank stand for my 20h tanks. :irked:

Perhaps you could add more decor to help break up lines of sight. Make sure there are plenty of caves so the female has a place to hide.

As for breeding, I would assume P. Loiselli's are similar to my P. Friedrichsthalii's in that they are open spawners requiring a flat surface to lay eggs on. I added some pieces of american flagstone to my tank which I found locally at Home Depot. These flat pieces of rock are very useful for stacking and making caves. Slate would also work.

On a side note, I just recently added a pair of 5" P. Friedrichsthalii's to my tank in which I had a school of giant danios as dithers. Within 2 days the Freddies had completely annihilated the school of giant danios, but have not shown much aggression towards each other or their other tankmates.

Ive tried adding more decor breaking the line of sight but the female insist on staying on the top corner where its exposed tried moving stuff around they adding more but nothing works. I was missing one Danio which I think my male killed then ate then one jumped to his doom the other 4 are ok. The male is going back in with her tomorrow gonna try silver dollars as dither fish. I got a terra cotta pot for them to call home to breed. Ive been told that its a good alternative to use besides slate.

:)okay crab, lol, sorry.the female is bashing the male, man u should seperate them if that doesnt work out 4 u you really should feed the female hunger the male DONT FEED HIM!just joking!feed him less, soon he will become tired and later i think he will regain his apetite so sit back and:popcorn:while u see ur fish Danios :????
if it doesnt work out then:banhim:!!!!!!!!!

oh yeah thats not really the subject um.....................................................................get a powerful fish like
flowerhorns, oscars and frontosa jaguars to actually smash n bash the fish

I could care less what happens to the Danios they live cool they get eaten then oh well. I wont buy another big cichlid for this tank. I dont got another tank to move my current loisellei's yet and dont want to have to worry bout getting even more tanks later on. Also Jags are a very bad idea since loisellei's and jags are closely related and have the possibility to breed and I dont want to breed hybrids. I wont mess with FH's either and last time I put an oscar with a single parachromis the oscar's got beat up by my single fish.

So yeah thanks for the advice but ummmm yeah I dont see any of that which would really benifit me.
