Today I got two from a local fish store marked, "Managuense 'Honduran black'. Very nice, healthy looking jags. I didn't think much of the name at the time (it was was an impulse buy fueled by pure nostalgia) but now the stupid name has me wondering. Anyone else have 'Honduran black' jags? Anything special or different about them?
Caveat: I am we'll aware that it is impossible to nail down the exact origin of these individual fish. I'm just curious as to when the strain/name came about.

Matt,

Please elaborate on this. I have a Honduran blue but was wondering about black. BTW looking forward to Aquamania!

Any body have mature larger specimen pics of these guys?

Ah different trade name it seems? Cool just wanted to ask for my own knowledge. Always love a different variant of a fish that I already like. Guess I got my hopes up for nothing.

I bought a Honduran black from cichlid connection recently and asked myself. I was told its a regular colored jag. I believe the Honduran blue are from aqua mojo line??

Jason, was there any indication as to where they actually came from? I ask because, as you probably know, the 'tangerine' islantums are the same red islantums that joefatfish collected from rio amacuzac a few years back. Why the name change? I don't know, but it was the same fish nonetheless.

Fish have had "common" names since people started keeping them. We are part of a tiny percentage in the hobby that even know/care about this sort of thing. The primary function of a wholesaler like Conkel is to make a profit. If he wants to name his fish after superheroes or famous rock singers, I really don't care. I've never seen a vendor that doesn't use (or even come up with) common/trade names. Obviously as far as marketing goes, it's getting you all to talk about it...
