Parachromis managuense tank size?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think a single male would be okay for a while. Years down the road I think a 6' tank is best. A monster managuense will reach 16" but that will take 5 yrs or so. My pair will be going in a 125 6x18" deep in about 6 months or so. The male is getting preety big these days and is starting to look like he would like the extra room. He is around 3 yrs old and eyeball 13" and bulking up. A 180 6x24" would be great for life, they can get thick IMO

I reckon you could do it. the only thing that i am thinking is that a large male will be over a quarter of the lenth of the tank. My best bet would be anything atleast one foot longer, just for extra room. If you come to the decision the tank might be too small, why not have a look at some other parachromis, such as parachromis friedrichsthalii, probably not a red tiger mota though, as they tend to be reclusive. Mate in my opinion, the freddy is a great alternative to a jag. I currently own an 8' male and he is by far the best cichlid i own/have owned. Aggressive, awesome personality, colouration etc etc etc

But it is up to you buddy, at the end of the day it is your decision, good luck

like everyone else said. it will be fine for a good couple years. oNCE you decide the tank to small. You will probly be in a better position to buy a larger tank. But like all mfk members. That monster bug will hit you befor that time comes. and you will have a larger tank. I give u 18 months befor u got 150 just becuase your hooked mfk style ;)

I agree with a 6' x 2' footprint as the minimum for a life tank.

Thanks for all the input. I have some time before I set this tank up and am researching a bunch of possible inhabitants. Was also thinking a red devil. I'm sure that size would be ok for life?

it whould be kind of riskey putting a red devil and jagware chiclid together in a 150 gallon but it is possible.

if they get along why need a 150 gallon minumum. so they do not kill each other. both verry aggressive killing fish.
