i put aquarium salt in the thans right now 1 table spoon per 5 gallons...so to be happy but didnt kno about a true brackish tnak

Salt isn't really needed unless you are trying to treat something. Just keep the water clean and be patient.

When he is ready, he'll finish the work at hand, whoever it may be with.

I'm curious, your larger female spawned and was ready to again a week later?

No doubt, not telling ya how to run you're tank. Never heard of salt as a way to promote better breathing. I was under the impression of adding oxygen to the water through surface agitation and or a bubbler.

At least ya know you got a ready female. The male should catch her In size in no time. He might change his tune when he does and go after the one who "puts out" haha.

i have 3 75 gal tanks and none of them have a bubler and have never owned one i put ONLy aquarium salt in there at 1 table spoon per 5 gallons as recommended on box.. i think its different than ocean salt but not sure on that one....i add more with every water change i do every 2 weeks at 75%.. and as the salt also help with the fish stressed...less stressed more active beautiful color's

Yea, a bubbler is only needed if your fish only hang out toward the top. Jags don't really need much oxygen in their water. As for salt, you may want to check out what it actually does from other websites. In many cases it can kill the fish you mix them with. And idk about 75% every 2 weeks, it's probably not terrible but I feel like its almost a minimum requirement.

aquarium salt (sodium chloride) is used for a few things. Aid in damage recovery, slimecoat, reduction of bacteria and/or infections, kills most external parasites, planaria, etc. when exposed directly to salt, mainly when they are in the gravel. Aquarium salt is safe for your fish, even for scaleless fish. You just don't want to drop the salt directly on scaleless fish because it will burn them like a slug.
