In a 180 I don’t see a problem with the plecos as long as they can’t be swallowed. Give them cover to get away and you’re good.
I have a 180 gallon and plan to end up with a pair...I have 2 males and 4 females. I think the SD's are temporary and I will probably rehome them eventually...I am curious if the triple beacon pleco and rhinodoras gallego that are in the tank will be tolerated. It all depends if the pair I end up with will tolerate anything else in the 180g. I would say most likely not, but I will have to see how it shakes out.

My 3.5" killer red istlanum tried to mutilate my 4" triple beacon.. albeit, it was in a 4 foot 75 the istlanum had already established as his... so the triple beacon is in a peaceful SA 180 w/ geos and angels now.. hoping his once perfect fins heal up..

love the attitude / personality of aggressive CAs but it's been a challenge trying to stock.. he also tried to murder 3 female and one sub dom male istlanum in a 5 foot 120.. and has killed a BA tetra in one tank and Colombian tetra in another.. :shakehead

Haven’t kept an istlanum but it doesn’t surprise me from what I’ve read. Haven’t kept any of the chiapaheros except for Grammodes which I didn’t care for. Beani is one I want to try but they are not found with many other fish you can source easily since that sort of Mexico is rather sparse as far as fishes sold in the trade.

following along,

this looks to be something similar to what i’d like to try -

nice setup!

How are they doing and looking now?
