Parachromis Multifasciatus

Any body else see this on the heroine cichlid page.

paper by Rico Morgenstern, information about the nomenclature of what we used to call Parachromis friedrichsthalii and Parachromis loisellei. The latter is now a synonym of the former, occurring in southern Central America. The valid name for the Mexican/Guatemalan guapote is now Parachromis multifasciatus (Regan 1905).

I did try reading the full paper and realised half way through I am too tired, not much was sinking in.
From what I did pick up the species locations aren't quite as simple as Willems quick break down.

It appears that the names loisellei, and freidrichdthalli (according to Morgenstern) are the same species (maybe location variants (?), are both junior synonyms to multifasciatus.
So "if so" multifasciatus becomes the valid name

I understood that the loisellei is now friedrichsthalii and the former friedrichsthalii is now multifasciatus.

Your Panamanian would be multifasciatus, if Morgenstern is right, because his theory is the two species are now combined as one.
In other words, simple location variants.

My understanding of the paper is Parachromis friedrichsthalii are from the southern end of central America and what used to be p loisellei a variant of that.
Parachromis multifasciatus from Mexico and part of Guatemala is now a separate species. So you still have two distinct species, multifasciatus and friedrichsthalii.
