I agree. Ideally these magnificent fish should have tons of space. My largest tank is a 150g and is one reason I keep smaller species being that the biggest gets between 8-10". And eventually I'll upgrade.
 
I have read alot of William's articles, in one of them he was saying how he kept his convict pair solo in a 180 gal, I thought this extreme at the time but after witnessing my young pair try take over mine I am now tending to agree with him, I think my biffa's will be the last big fish I keep

i'm not so sure I agree that Loiselle's should be in the genus Parachromis. Has anyone else considered this also? They just seem too different

I totally agree.
From now on I don't think I want to keep anything that grows over 8 inches in my 7x2x2.
Anything over that size starts to look out of scale and cramped in its surroundings. Other members will have different views,personally I start asking myself if I'm being cruel keeping a fish over 8 inches in a 220 gallon.If I'm honest with myself the answer is probably yes.

I feel the same but I don't think I will find a better home for the bifasciatus so I shall keep him, after them I personally think 8 to 10 max in the 180

I imagine your biffa's are a lot better off with you than they would be if you traded them in.
My melanura have started their scale eating tactics again.They are going to be moved on.
These will be the last veija or any other large cichlid I keep.
To be honest I enjoy smaller cichlids more.
They look to scale with the decor,behave more naturally and I feel more comfortable keeping fish in more spacious surroundings.

It's on FB as part of the Heroine Cichlid group, or in the latest Buntbarsche Bulletin of the American Cichid Association.
As far as loiselle goes, looks are a minor detail, compared to the DNA evidence that places motaguense, freidrichstahii, and loiselli about as close as cichlid can get, even closer than to manguense. Find the article in the scientific paper below to get the info, I tried to post it , but couldn't, it's over 100 pages long
