Paradigm Shift, almost completed. You?

So 95 per cent of my tanks have been converted to fancy goldfish sanctuaries.

I've moved out African Cichlids, South American Cichlids, Hybrids and Amazonian communities.

The last to be converted? My 75 gallon housing my 5, going on 6 year old Midas. I have hesitated with him as he is quite large. How the heck do I even move him?

Overall though, this change has felt right. Fancy goldfish meet my needs in terms of fish keeping.

I'm thinking I might be 100 per cent fancy goldfish by the holidays. We'll see.

Have you ever gone through a shift like this in the hobby?

Yes, I often have spurts where I envision all my tanks containing angry cyprinids like chinese algae eaters and black sharks. But I hesitate in favor of my other passion, spiky doradid catfish and plecos.

Wow, thats extreme, 100% fancy gold fish ? In answear to your question I've personally done my share of flipping fish the last 25 yrs.
Angel fish breeding, to red belly piranha with exodons, to oscars, to fancy gold fish, to arowanas, tiger datnoids, and back to pirannas (more exotic varieties).
Various purple parrots, king kong parrots, and exotic plecos where kept with the above, except the piranhas of course.
The changes where all gradual.
May I ask, what do you find more suitable fish keeping wise with the fancy gold fish ? And as much as I respect gold fish, (they started this hobby after all, and are much more than just feeders) I would get bored with tanks of the same type fishes, but thats just me.

LOL... I have switched fish, however it is not like most people I just seem to get a new tank and get the new fish I think I need  it is sick.... I love the carp I ended up with 3 Koi a couple of months ago.. when I purchased a used 55 gal. show tank for my Dwarf Cichlids and well sure enough the lady did not know what to do with the koi so if I wanted the tank I had to take them too.. so we did they are so friendly and food motivated without being mean they now live in the Pool outside (as they are big now) and I think we are going to put in a pond for them next summer.... does that count as a new fish tank? I told my husband it does not

Thats awesome. I want to see pics. Im looking forward to building a pond so I can get a bunch of koi and/or fancies. Am also considerring a pleco pond. I think it would be cool to have exclusively plecos in a white bottom pond with some driftwood and plants sticking out.

Oh and any chance that Midas is a female? My RD needs a mate so Im loooking to buy.

The main reasons I love keeping them:

1. They remain engaged with the owner
2. They eat very well
3. They display very well
4. They give a sense of well being to a fish room
5. They maintain a vast and storied history
6. They seem to enjoy life

He's a 12-13 inch monster, unfortunately for your circumstances. :)

To expand on my previous comment. Goldfish, fancy goldfish specifically, seem to bring me peace. It's strange... It's as if they are connected to the flow of a room, the energy of a room.

Also, when they get large, they are like big puppies. So meaty and happy.

I love my Midas, but he's always so angry...
