bump to see if anyone has kept them??

i had a male in a 10 gallon tank with 2 fancy goldfish few zebra dainos and a bamboo shrimp.... he was only mean when there was blood worms in the tank and of the goldfish got near his plant....another thing is they like to sit on top of plant semi close to the surface like bettas so they dont have to constenly swim..... if u get a female make sure that u have plenty of hideing places also if they breed the males tend to be protective of the fry like bettas but they will work out if u watch them good and take care of any aggression...

thanks for the info! the link above is the tank they will be going in to..i was thinking one male to start out with then if all goes well to add a single female about a month later...the only worried is if he will pick on my sculpin who is scaleless..but also pretty aggressive and pushy...

I would do a three-spot gourami, less aggressive and gets to 5 inches.

i wouldnt do a 3 spot i have had around 6 my old ones use to fight with cichlids and it tends to rip the scales off them...... I had a trio one time but the male breed with both females then killed them when guardeing eggs..... ive had more success with the paradise fish in smaller tank with less aggresive fish....
Im not saying all 3 spots are mean but all 6 ive had have been super mean and i had a male paradise in with fancy goldfish and no shredded fins.... id just watch it really close if u do go with the paradise fish as u always have to when adding new fish to a established tank.... 3 spot gourami wont work cuz they dont like thar cool of temps... i tryed it 1 time slowly got sick and died about 2 months after adding to tank..... the other part is they seem longer lived than the three spots.....

i first thought of gourami..but after talking to my LFS they said the paradise fish would work best for cooler temps...my tank is a bit on the chili side.
