I need to know when treating a tank for worms does the medication kill off beneficial bacteria never had to use it before just found nematodes today :swear: thx in advance for any info.
No anti-worming drugs do not harm filter bacterial, only anti-biotics do.

Many medications for killing large "parasites" will negativly affect your biological filtration and kill off benificial bacteria. Clout works real well and dosn't seem to be a major problem, Fluke tabs works even better at killing large parasites and worms but will screw up your filter. SO dose Formalin. Most the manufactures will list if thier product affects your benificial bacteria.

I have always used Prazequantel and Metrodazinole for wild fish or parasites. If I am concerned about the fish being sensative to the Medication, I use Seachem's Aquazole which is a less concentrated version of Metro..

thanks i,m treating all my tanks with prazipro active ingredent is prazequantel using it as a bath and have started with Gek-tek ultra cure px active ingrediants prazequantel mebendazole and flubenol dosing their food with this- found the host one of my goramis has the buggers sticking out must've transfered over to my other tank with the python , what ive researched is the biggest problem with the stronger meds is they kill the worms in the host and it has a hard time passing the dead worms.

Hmmm...Four year old thread and you could have asked in a new thread.;) Try eBay for Prazipro otherwise get flubenol, flubendazole, fenbendazole or levamisole hydrochloride. The alternatives are far more effective against internal parasites. Tetracycline for internal bacterial infection.
