Pulchers (widebars) are extinct in certain water basins. None of the other Dats are extinct anywhere (as far as I know).

There is no proof at the moment that that Pulchers are being bred anywhere. And several people from Thailand have stated on this forum that programs from that country attempted to breed them but never succeeded.

There was a guy that posted on here of his big ST is breeding in China:

Personally I dont think that Thailand has the resources to breed ST's so they wouldnt put in the best effort. Also if they are breeding ST's they could be trying to keep it hush hush so the same thing doesnt happen again

Yea I saw that. That was his first post and he never came back.

He says it is in a 6' tank. People can't breed them in ponds, how is he doing it in a tank that size?

He also stats that it is 2.5 years old and 18". I am sure you are aware of how slow Dats grow, so I do not know how he got it that size in such a short period of time.

Something smells fishy about that post and it aint the Datnoid.:grinno:

His Dat could very well be that big, my friend Kenny (LFS) has a Dat at the store close to 2 feet. Its 2 years old. Well atleast according to the person who gave it to them.

I really think it just depends on the diet...

One of my dat's I got 3 months ago at around 2.5" has been eating hikari gold pellets and is now around 5". But I have another dat that I got before that one that was actually bigger then him and has only been eating blood worms and krill is now just shy of 5" by 1/4" (this one just starting eating shrimp since I have added all the other dats recently).

:topic:

Sorry, so any updates one the dats health?

Your looking to get 1" of growth a year from a Dat once it reaches the 1' mark. If he was able to get this guy up to 18" in 2 years then I want to know his secret.

I would also like to know his secret that allowes him to be the only person in the world that can breed Dats in a tank (or at all).

Can't believe everything you read. Especially on forum sites.

I had pretty successful growth in IT's after 1". I got mine up to 6" in a little over a year. I used heaters to speed up metabolism and fed them 3-4 times a day. Mostly bloodworms to fill their stomachs and finished with pellets. The large 17" indo I posted grew from 6-7" to 17" in a few years. It grew out in a 180g and was fed mainly market shrimp. water changes also greatly help with growth. About the breeding........bah BS! LOL!

was the worm easy to remove from the fish? my new dat had what looked like a worm on the bottom of the jaw. i took him out ready to remove it if it was a worm. but after pulling him out it appeared to just be a cut and skin hanging off. just in case i gave it a small tug and it didnt move so i put him back in. when you pulled him out was the worm still stiff and protruding out? or did it become limp and lay flat on the body.

i am happy my fish are okay
