THE GARDEN STATE
just purchased a silver arowana about 2 weeks ago. I've noticed the past few days some worm like things coming out of him/her. they are near the fins so i'm not sure if its some tatered fin or parasites also just below his pectoral fins there is a small black wormlike thing coming out of him. the end of the worm has a split end . Can anyone help me out? all of my other fish appear to be fine.

sound like an anchor worm there are certain medication for that
it would be helpful if you had a picture?

it is anchorworms and it sucks... use parasite guard after listen carefully you need to take the fish out of the tank and pull the worms off of him and then use the parasite guard... I don't envy you at all...

Sandpaper!!! ha ha ha no never had to do it just know how to a lot of people like to winter their pond fish indoors and they usually get worms around this neck of the woods...

i did it. i pulled those f@#$%&* out of him. and threw some meds in the tank. not as bad as i thought. the fish is pissed off. but i think it'll be alright.

thats cool.. hopefully it does better

Wacth for more, theyare a b---h to kill, until recently the only cure was to remove the worms and give formalin or pottasium permanganate dips. Also watch where you pulled them from because sometimes you leave a little tissue behind and the spot will develope a fungal or bacterialogical infection that you then have to treat.

I have been having quite the parasite problem myself. There has been an unusually greater amount of leeches in the river this year. They are not big inch long ones, only a couple millimeters, but they seem to be on my feeder fish and shrimps. Luckily they haven't been on my mosters. I get them off by scooping them in the net, and usally when they jump around in the net, the friction causes it to fall off, or I get a pair of soft tweezers and yank the sucka off.
