Paratheraps Fenestratum Rio Antigua

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The ones i got from rapps a while back now, is not sporting blue as one of their many colors. It's more of a black tone that spreads out to the bottom side of the fish, from the horizontal line.

Good luck with yours, they are very nice fish.

Ps. Yours look surprisingly similar to my Bifasciata Rio 'Chacamax'

Fish side by side below. Bifasciatus Chacamax are taller bodied with higher fins and lots of yellow/gold, while the fenes are more torpedoed. Aggression is night and day as well.
Both males below are 6" and the Bifas hangs pecefully with 5 other bifas while the fen
tries to kill everything that swims.

My little Fen is only 4" but he's a monster. Takes on fish bigger than him! I thought they were supposed to be one of the more peaceful cichlids.

But it all seems worth it when you see what they turn out to be as adults.

I too have the same bifaciatus (Rio Chacamax), they look like the pic.....
I also have the fenestratus (Rio Ag....) from rapps, but mine are longer than the
bi's and at times seemed striped....I really wonder what they will look like as adults...
I am ordering a few red/blue fenustratus from Don Conkel...this should make
things interesting!!!!....luckily I have xlarge tanks.....

By the way..very nice fish you have there!!!!!!!
I always thought fennies might be more aggressive than bi's.....

The stripes display more with mood swings, especially when breeding. Here are a couple recent ones and one when he was young. From what I've read, Fenestratus don't really hit their color potential until they reach 10". This Rio Antigua strain is turning out pretty cool. I have raised many strains of Fenestratum that have been a dissapointment.

oh yeah fene's aren't peaceful by reputation at all. I've always heard and read they're actually one of the more aggressive Paratheraps.

Mine is still rather small, no more than 3" so no real color yet and it's striped all the time. The bifasc is just a touch smaller and starting to color up but I can't wait to see how the fene turns out. :)
