Folks,

I am looking for some help on this one. I have recently taking a liking to Pink Fens.

Where can I get more info on them?

Is a Pink Fen the same as a Catemaco?

My understanding is that Catemaco is a lake where you can find a wild population of Pink Fens - is that correct?

I have not yet kept these fish, but I have seen some pictures where the Pink Fens have black markings on them much like you might see on midas or red devils - is there a strain out there with the bright pink/red head that doesn't have the darker markings in adult fish?

OK - so I am looking for a brightly colored pink strain of these fish without the dark markings (I understand they are all dark when young?) - Can anyone recommend a supplier or breeder who might have some like this?

Also - I saw on another thread where someone asked: What are the major differences between Paratheraps & Vieja? I didn't see that answered, but I am also curious. The fish in each of these groups look very similar to me - but I have not kept any of these yet.

Thank you for any help you could provide!
Patrick

i have a breeding pair of catemacos right now,and have owned the pink fen,too different fish(although they are from the same lake)was a big debate awhile back that they were the same, but the pink fene(aka piebald fen)change colors as they grow, they both are born with black bars, but the catemacos change to mostly white with a few other specks of color, while the piebalds fade from one color to another and have a very different appearance when doing so. One thing i can say is my male is a mean sob and a few of the fry that are males are the same even at two inches,i am at work now but will post pics when i get home, maybe you can compare them to other photos. hope that helps

Thanks for the responses!

There is very limited info on the pink fene, probably partialy due to the various names its been termed as. My LFS labeled mine pink fene as "Vieja (pink)". I have no idea what this fish will look like as an adult, theres so many different pictures online. My pink fenes colors have changed dramaticly since i have gotten him a month ago. More pink and getting a black bar by tail. Its probably a Female but cant tell until the tail fills in. Not very aggressive yet, but definatly not shy haha. CRAZZZZY over food too, I cant over emphasize that enough. I believe rapps has the pink fenes for sale, and you know his fish are always show stoppers.
Heres mine.

I named him HotDog.

I got my fenestratus from cichlid world in Garden City as a "conkeli". I have also seen fenestratus @ fantastic fins. They do orders from conkel, ken davis, and rapps who have all supplied them.

Thanks for the explanations and help on this.

here are my sp catemaco.(also don sells pink fene and catemaco separate)
