Paratilapia polleni

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IME I have found the small spots to be way more aggressive than the large spots. I have had no issues keeping the large spots with several different fish but the 2 small spot females I have are relentless in chasing everyone around the tanks they have been in.

thanks guys I'm going to pick up three when i do I'll update with some pics!

I have a male that is about 10 inches; when he was younger he mated unsuccessfully with one of my Green Terrors. He is now in a 55 gal tank with some plecos and an Eupterus Cat.
I also have 10 small Pollenii, 2-3 inches in a 60 gal tank. Alpha male keeps everybody in line. I may do some splitting up to keep the peace.

i have a pair now thanks to tony (tezr). the male has had her pinned up for a good week but slowly she is coming out more and more. when she does come out he will give chase and nip but does no damage. been waiting on pics til she gets out more which should be soon.

Congrats on your pick.

I remember I started out with 6. I had them all in a Madagascar themed tank with Paretroplus Dambabe, Maculatus and Menarambo. I also had some Nics, Cyrtocara Moori, Tilapia Snyderae, and spilurus.

Eventually they had grown to about 3 inches and started to pick on each other. 1 was killed. Then it stopped for a while. At about 5 inches 1 more died. Eventually they started picking on one more fish and luckily i was able to save it. A pair had formed and had terrorized it. It lost its tail, its caudal and anal fins but today it's alive and well. They're all between 6-7 inches now. The guy never grew back his tail though. But they do grow in size pretty fast.

well my female is out more and more and doesnt act scared anymore. the male still shows great interest in her and nips softly and she has figured out he isnt trying to harm her. i havent seen any signs of pairing yet but its a good start.

I have a red tilapia also called pink tilapia and its nasty as hell-about 11" right now.If you are near jersey i'll give ya the nasty s.o.b. for free

Although I found 1 dead the other day being scavanged by the large male motag. Not sure if it was the motag, or other Paratilapia, as they mature, males tend to want to eliminate any other male Paratilapia competition.
