i have a pair of cons with a lot of fry about .5 in. my question is, is it necessary to separate the fry from the parents, or will the parents be ok with them for their whole lives of at least until i sell them. i have the cons in a 100g right now but i want to move them to their own tank because they are raising hell right now with the other fish in the 100g. thanks for the help

I've heard that they would be fine together, provided that no one is breeding at the time. If they start to breed, they'll just be treated as any other fish trying to eat their eggs. Usually, people will separate them when the fry become free swimming.

4-6 weeks is usually about how long you can leave fry with their parents before the parents are ready to spawn again and then leave the existing fry to fend for themselves. typically I'd recommend leaving the fry with the parents for 3-4 weeks. If you remove the fry too soon then the male will be ready to spawn again while the female is not which could lead to a wife beating. If you leave them too long then the parents will both be ready to spawn again and in many cases simply eat the existing fry so that they won't pose a threat to the new batch.
