Paretroplus menarambo elegant swim

Small menarambo are particularly finicky eaters, they require live baby brine shrimp exclusively till about 3 months of age then you can start weaning them over another 3. They like frozen brine shrimp and other good quality foods. I only use heaters while incubating the eggs- set between 76-78 degrees. You can keep them on just to keep their water from dropping below 60-65. My adults are not heated and the water temp is around 65.
Ich is the biggest challenge, they respond well to treatment and have partial immunity so further episodes will be less dangerous. The next biggest challenge is their diet as aluded above. Once you've got them to 6 months of age, it's easy street!

Yes they were together. And I don't remember exact temp. I believe I started about 79 then once I noticed the ich a couple days later went to I think 82 or 83 and was doing the salt and everyday water changes for the ich.

Also mine were eating awesome from day 2 I got them. Frozen brine shrimp and frozen blood worms. But after the ich seemed to be gone they would sometimes lay on there sized on the bottom of the tank. That is what lead me to think they maybe had some kind of parasite or something as well. Couldn't figure it out though. I really hope it wasn't that my temps were too high and I killed them, that would make me sick. :(:(:( I did not know they needed to be in that cool of water. The store I purchased them from said they would be fine at whatever it was I started at 79 I think.

Most people recommend temps around 80 but they tolerate lower temps as long as temp changes are not rapid. I like lower temps as I keep about 3000 gallons and to try to lower my electric use. So far I have had no problems after 10 years. Once I had maculatus in an acrylic tank, temps rose over 84 and the fish stopped feeding and were listless and on the bottom. I can't say what happened to yours- high ammonia, high temps have similar effects on their behavior.

Well I won't steal your thread anymore thanks for the suggestions though, good info for when I want to try them again. And again very nice fish you have and wow 3000 gallons you must have some other cool stuff too. Very nice!
