Hard to say. Is there anything in the tank with him?

Looks like fungus or fin rot possibly.Since they have no scales and are more than likely sensitive I'm not sure what would be an effective yet safe medication for your shark.

They can be,the rot just eats away at the fish as does the fungus too,I think,if either of those are what your fish has.
You say nothing else is in this tank,has it recently been set up prior to you getting the paroon,is it fully cycled?
