Parrot Cichlid Without Food For 6 Weeks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The fish is currently hovering very slowly above the bottom of the tank upright and moving her pectoral fins slowly :) When i do a 20% water change she floats upside down on the surface for about a hour or 2 then rights itself again and hovers just above the bottom of the tank again.

She hover's over the bottom of the tank literally all day and doesn't swim round much until a gravel vacuum comes in the tank lol.

I will definitely add some small guppies to the aquarium and hope it takes them :)

Be carful with the water changes, you dont want to put any more stress on the fish.

I will pick some up thanks :) if i cant find it over here will get the best alternative. You think a parrot cichlid would eat live feeders supergourami? she usually only has a problem with larger fish and thats a territorial thing lol but will give it a try :)

if there small enough to fit in there mouth yes she will eat them

ill also test this on my parrot fish and get back to you just to be sure but im 99%

Ok thanks :) appreciate you testing supergourami, will definitely get some small guppies in the tank tomorrow and hope she eats them. One more 20% and the water conditions should be back to normal fully so decided to not do that today and will wait a day or 2 to minimize stress.

Thanks again for all the advice mfkers unfortunately she passed away earlier lastnight :(:(

Not sure what im going to stock her tank with now maby go marine as im setting up a biorb life 60 and a fluval edge as nano reefs or some RBPs.

Really sorry to hear that...always sad to lose a fish - especially one you've had for so long (10 years!!).

Always a risk to leave fish in another's care. I lost almost a whole tank full of african cichlids when a friend thought it would be nice to clean the front glass on my tank before I came home. Unfortunately he used Windex and I guess got some in the tank (overspray?).

I totally disagree with etan. no stress in removing bad water, as long as chlorine and chloramines are treated.

when tank water toxins have built up too high, I always immediately change the water out to as toxin-free condition as possible.
I don't believe in "gradual" when fish are already at the disadvantage of fighting toxins internally too. damage is progressive and exposure needs to be stopped. not tapered slowly.

Sorry for your loss.

I hate losing fish and it makes you wonder what you did wrong, I could have done something else to help the fish.
