Parrot x Green Severum

Have you done this cross before?

I find it amazing that people read something a few times "no SA cichlids can hybridize" and they take it as fact and don't even leave the door open that it just might still happen. I agree there are no known cases where this has happened yet, but I believe there are some combinations that are more likely to be viable and potentially produce hybrids. I agree that in this case it is extremely unlikely, but I would never say never.

One of my favorite sayings:
"The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it." - Chinese proverb

Good luck OP and let us know the outcome.

I know what you mean, but I did not say that no SA cichlids can hybridize, I said I see no way of this happening. There are SA cichlids that can hybridize, just look at festae for example.

They have spawned again! This time I have moved the eggs so there is no chance of them being eaten. We shall see if they are fertilized or not soon :)

Regardless of what parent is the Blood Parrot, the spawn won't be viable. You won't every get fry from that mix, Severum can't successfully cross with Blood Parrots. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, I am just being realistic.

I do know that South Americans in general can interbreed within their genus and that Festae can outside its genus but South Americans are much more genetically diverse than Central Americans. Severum have allegedly been able to successfully spawn with Convicts (even though it hasn't been 100% proven) but that doesn't mean its able to successfully spawn with Parrots. And if the male is the Parrot then there is no chance of it successfully spawning with any cichlid because nearly all males are sterile.
