Patience? How often do you change??

I used to have the same feeling about all the fish that I keep till now, but I guess the best thing to overcome this, is to have a big tank where you can have a mixture of fishes in there, which I plan to do somewhere ealy next year.

I think my issue is as others have said.... I just have not found "THE" fish for me....

I have a 55 gallon tank, then 3 smaller tanks (20g, 29g, and 15g)....

I have had the 55 for about a year and already changed stock 3 times... the main fish anyway, I have left in a few dithers and a catfish the entire time....

I recently added a pair of cons to my 29 and have really enjoyed watching them... what would be a good breeding pair of larger fish for the 55??

get a shoal of juvenile redhook and schomburgkii, they eat anything and grow fairly slow, but you will need a bigger tank once they are mature. You can try a pair of gulper cat fish in 55g, some people enjoy hand feeding them. However if you carry on with the hobby, you'll find that you need a bigger tank, and it doesn't really matter which fish you tend to keep.

I get frustrated when I cannot seem to keep certain fish alive, primarily angels. I have tried and tried and and with very little success. I tend to stick with more hardy fish such as parrots, severums, tin foil barbs, plecos and convicts.

Like most Hobbyist, you just got to find that fish that interest you the most. And like most, I've gone through Pbass, Dats, Polys, different Knives, Silver Arowana, a variety of Catfish and Cichlids, Guppies, Bettas, etc. Probably gone through these fish on more than one occasion. In the end, I settled on 2 tanks with mainly Dats, Knives, Polys and a couple of Zamora Catfish. Took me years to discover what I really liked. So don't be discouraged if you haven't found that particular fish yet:)

I know a bigger tank is in the future... but probably in the distant future as we are renting our house now and I do not want to push with the weight limit on the 2nd floor.... so the 55 is probably as big as I can go for a few years...

I dont get frustrated at all.... i actually enjoy watching a species for a while and seeing its behaviour and then switching it out.... my wife gets frustrated, because she says she finally starts to like a certain fish, and then I get rid of it!!

someone once told me that keeping fish is a hobby, so if you are not happy with your tank, change it up as many times as it takes... and maybe, that is just my style? have a fish for a few months then change it up for a few etc.....

I have considered buying a fish already grown, since I have really only done juveniles and seem them grow to midsize at best!!.... considering a pair of sals, nics, or jds next..... we will see...

I was really bad with this early on, now I settled down and have kept some of my fish for over 3 years which is a very very long time compared to my past. My problem wasn't I couldn't find the right fish for me it was the opposite. I liked and wanted almost every fish out there particularly fish that get at least 10 inches or so. well I have to suck it up and control myself when I go to a LFS. I guess I am lucky that my LFS have gone down hill. Two of them have even removed 20-30% of their tanks. So its not like I ever find anything interesting.

I like to grow out monsters in my 180... but I'm looking to change it up in few months and then I've been saving up for an aimara or an armatus and a couple rays maybe

My prblem i sbuying oddballs. I will plan a new tank out for ages, finally get it and set it up and find some oddball at the store and fall in love with it and have to replan my whole tank.
That and needing a grow out tank for the Cichlids cuase you just cant throw the new little guys in with the big boys. If they are real small they go in with the community/Tetras for a few weeks, then in with the Tiger Barbs till they finally go in the 90 with the other Africans.

I'm the same as you. Can't stay with one setup. My problem is that when I see some species that I like andd I wanna keep, I change the stock up. he longest I've kept a fish was maybe a year or a year and a half but constantly changing tank mates. I have only one tank like you and there is so many fish species that I wanna try keeping. Then again sometimes I chage my stock and start missing the old one, like right now I'm missing my GT's :(
