Paverstone...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
depends on the pavers, slate would be fine, sandstone would not. it would be easier if you asked specifically about the stones you want to use.
there are plenty of posts about play sand, do a search.

Nothing wrong with sandstone. Slate has a high chance of containing iron oxide (rust) and should be used with caution.
Trust me i was a rock hound/stone mason

As far as the paversand is concerned as long as there is no additives, in example for mold prevention, it will be fine. Rumor has it that some of the paversands contain aragonite so it can act as a buffer giving u the water parameters of african cichlid tanks....

I had playsand in a tank before and did'nt have a problem.... but I would like to try pool filter sand, I just don't like how light it is.

As with most things we put in our aquariums, they darken with time, below is pool filter sand.

I have used play sand in the past, but found it a problem because my cichlids are always spitting it around and stirring things up, which ended up pitting the impellers on my pumps.

X2 for PFSand it has bigger grain, seems to sink fast, even when my fish dig.very cheap and clean
