it's incurable due to the fact that it is a virus.
Lymphocystis is an infectious viral disease of freshwater and saltwater fishes that causes cell enlargement (many more times than normal cell size), also called hypertrophy, usually on the skin and fins. The enlarged cell nodules may each reach 0.3 mm to greater than 2.0 mm in diameter, each becoming a virus factory. There is no way to cure a viral disease in any organism yet, no matter what some of the fish medications claim.

I got most of this information from a random site, but one of my bichirs had it, and it just went away after awhile, but I separated it ( quarantined it) so that my other fish wouldn't catch it.

Is a Payara also known as a Vampire Tetra? They had a Vampire Tetra at my LFS labeled for $199, it looks very close to the fish in the picture, but better.

there are multiple common names for these fish; so yes, they are also known as vampire tetra.

okay so it is treatable but I would not be able to keep it with any other fish for the risk of it spreading? is it worth going for it or do you guys think that it will be too much trouble and just not get it?

also, I looked up the Lymphocystis and it does not look like these guys had that. it was definitely ick that I saw, not Lymphocystis. I will look closer next time I am there though.

The random site is incorrect - Lymph is a disease - Hypertrophy is a cellular disorder - Hyper is abnormal growth of soft tissue usually caused by repeated ammonia/nitrate poisioning or repeated wounds in the same spot. Hypertrophy can be commonly seen on Pacus usually an extended gill flap. The Gill flap continually grows to combat the ammonia poisioning.
Lymph comes and goes thru out the lifespan of the fish it does very much have a dormant stage but in most cases is fatal from it's on set. Lymph starts out as little bumps that eventually open into pinkish lessions and then spreads along the meaty tissue ie; body and head.

Yeah I looked it over again and it's not Lymph, And it's not ich either, It's something I've never seen before. The fish you took the picture of had like a long wart hanging off of it's top fin and I've never seen it before. When I treated the tank with salt and high temp it was supposed to speed the life of the virus up, And it had spread terribly all over the poor fish just huge white lumps spread all over it's body and fins and he just could not take it anymore and died, Now if he was stronger and survived until the virus's lifetime ran out from the salt and temp he would have lived and the disease would have fallen off. I know it's exciting to see Tat's and even Scomb's in stores since we may never see them again. But I don't want the same thing happening to anybody else because I felt completely horrible the rest of the day after I found him dead and it just ruined my week. But if you absolutely MUST get this fish and you think it's ich just do the exact same thing I did. Get pharmaceutical salt and add however much it says to on the back, And bump the temp up to 86 and wait it out for about a week and see what happens. But I don't think it's a good idea whatsoever.

I told Matias (the owner) that I wanted to wait until they get a bit bigger and healthier before I buy them so what I think I will do is put $20 down and wait a month. If in a month they look good and healthy, I will take one home but if they are dead, I get my money back and if they are sick looking or about to die, I lose $20 instead of $40.

Sound good?
