Payara Documentation and ID Breakthrough!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well done, Sean. Once I get the Dorado sticky up, I'm going to tackle wolves and then rework the payara sticky to match the format I'm using in the other guides. I will be sure to include this info in the updated sticky.
A little request for the stickies, could you please state whether that particular fish is the apex predator of its region. I know that will certainly help for those who want to do a community setup. As DB junkie said " We all know what happens with too many chiefs and not enough indains"

Awesome info. Definitely sticky worthy. Let me know if you guys want/need specific body, head and tail shots to help with the identification sticky. My Armatus actually seems to like having his picture taken now lol

i'll help with the wolf sticky!

now you just need to iD the sex of these fish!

Hey man this is a great thread, kudos to you on this observation. I have a question, I just bought this guy he was labeled as red tail tat, but to me the tail and adipose looks to be an armatus since the colors don't match. But according to your observation the way the fin is, it looks like a red tail tat.

Any positive ID's on this guy?

Armatus. orange adipose fin is always armatus. I see a slight obtuse angle at the pectoral fin of your baby armatus! Plus the spots on the head.

Peoples got so many steals in armatus lately!

Oh! Okay I see it now! It's the inner angle that the fin makes, I was looking at the angle on the other side of the fin. And yeah those scomb prices for armatus are crazy. I got mine for 75

It's the inner angle that the fin makes

so it's the angle between the body and the fin? from what I'm getting, the armatus has fins more parallel to the ground?

we're always looking at the body and more obvious characteristics. good eye makes for a good find!

Exactly, it's the angle of the fin while they are naturally floating. Obviously they will flex up and down while moving but natural resting spot is clearly different
