I think you have that backwards. Gibbus reach only about 6-7 inches and charax can get up to about a foot in length
I have not kept either species, so my statement is theoretical in nature. But my sources (Mergus and fishbase) both agree on the sizes I stated above... Just curious: Where'd you get your numbers from?

Mala's rarely get to the 2 foot mark in an aquarium. [...] most usually top out at around 16"
I'm a positive thinker :D

My numbers are based on experience (from what I've seen and heard). How often do you think the profiles of those fish have been updated? For example, have you really ever seen or heard of someone with a Scomb that was 117cm? The pic they show is not even the right species or even in the same genus. It's a Raphiodon Vulpinus. Don't take those sites as gospel.

Oh, and I hope your wolf really does get 2 ft. That'd make an awsome show fish.

wow thats totally the wrong fish. not a reliable source at all.

simply get another tank and all problems are solved! Then you can worry about what to put with your payaras!
:D You think /\/\onster, that's the way to go!

How about the scale-eater aspect of Charax. Ever come across that?

Which is why I compared two sources - and also posted here :D. Mergus is generally pretty good (nothing is 100%, but it's about as good as it can get, edited by reputable professionals). But from the nature of the beast, books are always a bit behind. Still, in six volumes, they did not list any Charax beyond the 6'' mark. Oh, well...
