I plan to buy a koi vat for them it will be 170cm diameter and 100cm deep so not too shabby, they are 16" each i think female a bit smaller.

Thats waaaayyyy to much to pay IMO.. however, you pay what your willing to pay, if you want them that bad then its up to you.
Ye im not sure there are very many in the UK but in america its probably common to have a breeding pair. He tells me he paid 375 for them himself.

Im in australia and there just as rare here as is in the UK.. there was a breeding pair of Tems advertised recently here for around $800AUD which is roughly £299.

That depends. Lets say I pay 40USD for a fish. Now lets say you pay 40GBP for pretty much the same fish (same species, similar coloring, similar size, etc.) From what I last heard the GMP is worth 1.39587. Calculating inflation, etc.
40USD / 1USD = 40USD
40GBP / 1.39587 (conversion number) = 26.65996USD
Heres whart I'm getting at I just paid 40 bucks in America. Now you just spent 40GBP which is just a little under 27USD.
Therefore, I am more reluctant to spend those 40USD than you are spending 40GBP.
Same thing with silver dragon, 800AUD is worth less than your 800USD. You are more reluctant to spend that money than he is. That's why 800AUD is not the same to silver dragon as 800GBP is to you.
Well not if you convert it its not but $800 as someone who lives in america is the equivelant of me spending £800 as someone who lives in the UK relative to the prices of everything else and what you get paid its the same thing.
