PBass and other cichlids...

Thought of something else.

Do Cichla chew on/up root/all around trash live plants the way other large CA/SA cichlids do or can you keep live plants in the tank? Someone mentioned the Java moss and it got me thinking...

i would wait till the cichlids are full grown scratch the smaller ones like the rtm, festae, and escondido, also the umbee might kill your pbass and the other cichlids, dovii would be a bad idea

in a 400-500 gallon tank you can keep quite a few ...i think joey (r1_ryda has about 10 in his) i think plants are a bad idea since cichla like to swoop and smash lol.. java moss clings, i wouldnt say it roots. your tank would prob be better off without plants or at least without alot of plants. cichla arent hard to keep if you have clean and good water quality and keep your temp at 87+ degrees.

because parasite cant live in 87+ degree water, which baby cichla are more vulnerable too, and speeds up their metabolism, but high temps are mainly for keeping parasites away.

Ahh...ok. I was under the impression that 80 to 82 degree temps would do the same thing....maybe that is just for ich??

How about a UV sterilizer? Would that accomplish the same thing and allow you to keep the temp. around 80?
