I noticed something a while ago when feeding my pbass, and I was wondering if anyone else has observed the same thing.

When feeding my pbass once the food hits the bottom of the tank it might as well be a rock. They absolutely refuse to eat from the bottom of the tank. I can scoop the food out with my net and throw it back in and they will eat it as long as it doesnt reach the bottom of the tank.

Anyone else notice this?

Thats interesting, ive got 2 out of my 5 pbass who dont mind eating sinking carnivore pellets off the bottom of the tank that i put in there for my catfish.. Do you have any bottom dwellers in your tank?

Nope just the 3 monos and 1 pike who seems to have adopted the feed only from within the water column philosophy as well.

The falling food must trigger the feeding response .

I am sure it does. That and me standing in front of the tank.:nilly:

I guess its not really that bad. Better than them not eating at all. My girlfriend says they want my attention. I thought about a catfish of some sort but have decided to wait until I move and get a bigger tank. For now I'll just have to feed them a piece at a time when doing fresh/frozen foods, and clean up any left over mess from pellets/freeze dried foods etc with my handy dandy net.:irked:

lol yeh, netting the pellets out can be annoying.. definately get a cat or some bichirs to clean up after them, it will look cool and save you time :)

two of my cichla will eat off the bottom and so will my pike but i have two cichla that wnt go near food once it sits
