PBass introductions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
6 weeks on it's getting closer to introduction time!

I was wondering if it might be worth using a tank divider for a few days initially?
Do you think this would give the two groups of fish a chance to get used to each other or will it be more likely to encourage aggression and cause more trouble when it's eventually removed.
I suppose I could keep it as a standby just in case but I doubt it will be easy to split them up once they are together

Sorry to derail but, all I can say is those are some nice Cichla  ! If it don't work out send some this way. J/J:naughty:

you should be fine.. if anythign you will see some flaring and chasing. if things get out fo hand take them out... btw those pinima are sooooo gnarley

Hmmm....after thinking about it, maybe a divider would be more likely to encourage territorial behaviour and increase tensions between the two groups.

I'll probably make the move next week sometime (and post the results).

Those are my prize fish. Even the more common species of pbass are relatively hard to get hold of in the UK :(, which makes the pinimas extra special to me :D.

how big is the big tank?

Click on the "My Tank Setup" link under my avatar for details ;)

I know that's not big enough for life but I'm a serial upgrader (and water changer :nilly:)......next tank will be 8 x 4 footprint with a sump.

I doubt I'll keep all of the tems. I originally bought 5 at 2". I believe they're Singapore farm boys which apparently got sent to the LFS by mistake!
I didn't expect them all to make it (they were really skinny and I doubt they were fed properly at the LFS). Early on one did a Houdini and must have got through a tiny gap next to the filter intake pipe - found him dried out on the top glass :(. Not long after I had dodgy tap water problems http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74983 and lost another :irked:. I've put a lot of time and effort into raising the remaining 3. Live feeders are not really a viable option in the UK and, combined with the fact they have always been really skittish, I've had to coax them to eat properly all along.
