lol thanx lol am I serioulsy making a mistake here????? can one of these live alone in a 150 gallon??? serioulsy most sites say they won't get bigger then 20" in aquaria, so if a 16" red devil can live in a 75 your telling me a fish thats 4 inches bigger can't live in a 150 gallon???

They do grow that big in a tank... sad to say... They need to be kept at 86 degrees and need a wide tank live food is the best growth food although they will accept frozen when small they are very mean and are suseptable to ph drops for a big fish they are sometimes very fragile. Oh and man i didn't mean you were a noob to fish keeping sorry...

lol No but they're the biggest species, so IMO they have the biggest chance of getting huge. I guess that's why research is always good but I think we all impulse buy once. I believe they're eventually going to get bigger than 20" although they will slow down as they get bigger I'm sure.

Also they're very dirty, so have lots of good filtration..

Let the man keep the cichla temensis! You have at least a year probably more keeping them in that 150! As long as you don't pack it with other fish....

Temensis will not get to 30 in the aquarium.... low 20's are more reasonable. The more you feed the more they grow, so if you want to keep them longer feed them every other day when young and I'd recommend small fathead minnows and roseys. Then when they are around 5-6 inches you can get them off live and vary their diet. I feed mine twice a week to keep them smaller and so I don't break the bank! lol I would still keep the minnows as a staple though. Market shrimp are a good cheap substitute....

Smaller fish still get great coloring... my biggest orino is only 12" and it is better looking than most, it is a year and a half old.... Just growing them big doesn't make them look better!

Have fun with them! I bet you can't keep just two! :)

12" from 3" inside of a year :) I've had mine for just over 4 months i got them at 3" when i move them into the 250 I will get an accurate measurement.. Though Eyeballing right now I'd say my 2 larger ones are now 8" and thats not being generous :) thats just over an inch per month :) and I feed every 2 to 3 days :)

My monos went from 3 to 12 in about 5 months but I feed a lot. You will know when they are too big for the tank. Just be ready to sell them to someone with a bigger home for them or buy a monster tank when the time comes :)

Goldfish and shrimp are not good staple foods for p-bass. They both can cause a vitamin deficiency ( B3) If fed too often. Stick with rosies or minnows and other live foods with the occasional goldfish or white seafood. The key is variety Mine eat goldfish 1 time a week, 4 different brands of floating cichlid pellets, freeze dried krill, Frozen silver sides, and the occasional unwanted pet fish. I also use 2 vitamin products from kent I put Zoe freshwater vitamin and mineral supplement on their food and use discuss essential in their water.

Good luck Pbass are awesome fish :headbang2

alright thanx lol although I'm afraid what the hell will I do if they get 25" and I need bigger tank lol if I can't afford it I can't just kill a fish because of my own ignorance.... I think I will just bring them back unless i can commit now to buying a bigger tank in future.
