My male ocell (pretty sure its an ocell) Pbass started growing its horn/lump and its red for the past weeks. He also started punkin a mono in there and a different Ocell in there looks like its been roughed up too. I got 4 pbass and a silver aro in my 240 g. I researched some threads saying to use a piece of tile for them to lay eggs on. Is that all I should do just put in the slab and keep the temp high? Or take out the other fish or do some other stuff. I'll be surprised if they do spawn since they are not too big as of now probably 13-15 in.
Here's a few quick pics I took right now at night.

Yeah it was a spawning i got some eggs on the floor of the tank now. I'll probably have to siphon them out and move em to a seperate tank but I wonder how the parents will react to this. Guess I might be seeing a whole lot of peacock bass in my future.

The next time you see them in spawing conditions put a clay flower pot saucer.
It looks like this..

It makes it a lot easier for them to spawn on and for you because there will be no need to syphon but just pick up the saucer and move..

Also, 13-15" is a good size for them to start breeding.
My Ocells have spawned when my female was only 10" and my male was 13" :D

You should leave a few eggs for the parents.
By leaving some eggs for them to gaurd and hatch will teach them good parenting skills.

But over all. CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW SPAWN!!
Hopefully those eggs were fertile and will hatch in about 3 days.

Congrats on your spawn.

Yeah I left about 1/3 or so for them. Oh boy was the mother angry at that siphon during the collecting though... Just hope that the eggs do hatch I'll try to document some stuff and post updates

I'd be mad if that was me also.

Awesome, I can't wait for the updates.

Cant wait to see fry pictures. What are you going to do with all of them?

Hypeman - hawaii's not about the spam, its about fresh speared mahi, and locomoco for breakfast. :D

congrats, ya my wc peru monos spawned again for me a few weeks ago, there amazing parents arent they

make sure you have some bbs ready for them when they hatch, very important, if you need a quick way to set up a hatchery pm me

make sure you have some coffee brewing cause this threads a bit of a read, but it has most everything you need to be successful
good luck

be sure to update

Day three I don't think the eggs made it probably because I didn't have a spare heater the first day so they got too cold. Some eggs are white but most are still yellow and I can't find any swimmers. Lesson learned I say. Sorry I couldn't post pictures because I left my camera at my parents house for a while.
