Pbass Water Chemistry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My 2 juvenile 3.5 in bass are still eating great and swimming like normal. No sign of distress as of yet. I'm just going to keep the temp at 86 and treat with the aquarisol until the ich is gone.
I will do the water changes every 2 days with gravel vacs to suck up the ich trophites out of the gravel. The water changes will keep the water oxygenated and keep the nitrites at their present managable level.

Most likely my bass will live....hopefully

I just added my community to my personal gallery

ditch the aquarisol and use aquarium salt. As stated above chems will just kill your cichla i have used parasitic medicine and it worked but im still mixed on the results currently . Salt ,increased aeration and temps at or above 86 will wipe out the ick in a few days the only chemical that should be used with cichla is stress coat or prime personally i use stress coat but its your choice .

I bought the master water tester kit tonight, and an R/O system. Tested the water before a water change, here are the results. Pretty obvious the test strips dont work. I got the ARI freshwater master test kit.

PH 6.0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 0
Ammonia 0

 Yep the strips are for guppies. With Cichla you want to be exact and know exactly where you stand. I would not bother to much with the Ph but young Cichla are best kept at 6.4-6.6. It should rise on it's own. Keep in mond it's not reahing an exact ph just a consistant ph! (this is key) Over time you will see where your tank settles in at.

Did you test your tap water yet? I would test two sources. Take water from the tap you normally use and what ever you would use in case you couldn't use your normally used tap. Let the water sit for 24hrs to get best results. Keep it simple at the most only add prime after water changes. I rarely even use this because of the frequent large W/C I do. You will find out when there adults what suit's your Cichla best. GL!

thx bro. I didnt test the tap water yet, Because I'm refilling right now with the R/O water. My wet/dry filter is unplugged until I get it to the proper height, or it doesnt pump out enough water, and alot of air gets in the lines. I will though

My broko is finally starting to clear up from the ich. He has been eating like a pig the last few days and seems very happy.

My water parameters are in check.

PH 7.2

ammonia 0.0

nitrites 0.0

nitrates 0.0

temp 84

aquarium salt % 1 tablespoon per 7 gallons of water ( working up to 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons). Still treating with aquarisol.
